Circus everywhere in the city

Montreal is going COMPLÈTEMENT CiRQUE!

MONTRÉAL COMPLÈTEMENT CiRQUE is a Festival that brings people together across the city every July with a stunning circus program. For 11 days, Montreal moves to the rhythm of circus arts. Its venues, streets, parks, and sidewalks become stages to showcase colourful, high-flying performances from here and around the world.
An event not to be missed, MONTRÉAL COMPLÈTEMENT CiRQUE presents diversity in all its forms and expressions by creating moments where the most talented artists from the circus world come together to perform.

Created in 2010, it is the result of a collective dream that brings together TOHU—the project’s driving force—along with the support of Cirque Éloize, Les7 doigts de la main, Cirque du Soleil, the National Circus School, and En Piste. Together, they pooled their expertise, resources and will to create the first North American international festival dedicated to circus arts.

TOHU, the driving force behind the Festival

Located at the heart of the Cité des arts du cirque, TOHU is a place of diffusion, creation, experimentation, and convergence between culture (CIRCUS), environment (EARTH) and community involvement (HUMAN). Since its inception in 2004, it has become a world reference for sustainable development.

A shining example—here and beyond

TOHU and MONTRÉAL COMPLÈTEMENT CiRQUE contribute to Montreal status as an international capital of circus arts, and participate to the incredible rise of Quebec’s circus scene by offering programming that allows the province to truly shine.

A market for professionals

The INTERNATIONAL CONTEMPORARY CIRCUS MARKET (MICC), created in 2015 following a TOHU’s initiative, brings together over 200 professionals from the circus world circus during MONTREAL COMPLÈTEMENT CiRQUE. This 4-day event dedicated to conferences, workshops, meetings and discoveries contributes to highlight contemporary circus arts from here and elsewhere.

Word from the direction

With high enthusiasm, the whole team jumps feet first into the great journey that is the 375th anniversary of Montréal! What a year!

A year marked by Québec creations, when the cheekiness of Cirque Alfonse, the boldness of 7 Doigts and the craziness of Throw2Catch emphasize the incredible richness of our national circus, and by the international presence celebrated with the visit of 22 artists from French Compagnie XY as well as Australian Strut & Fret. A year when the blending of circus and digital arts gives us Minutes complètement cirque… numériques! A year of encounters and first collaborations with Juste pour rire, Casino de Montréal and in digital arts specialist Ingrid Ingrid.

Yes, what year! And how lucky are we to be part of the great Montréal celebration with three events in the 375th anniversary’s official programming. The experiential creation of 7 Doigts, Vice & Vertu, Minutes complètement cirque…numériques, and the great show Rouge at Place Émilie-Gamelin. And the plentiful of surprises and activities the 375th has in store on our premises.

Another year when more than 250 international professionals will gather in Montréal for the 3rd edition of the International market for contemporary circus (MICC), an exceptional Québec circus showcase and a special forum on contemporary circus.

A year so packed that the Festival will go on beyond July 16, with Limbo, Vice & Vertu and Rouge being presented until the end of the month. An 8th year for MONTRÉAL COMPLÈTEMENT CiRQUE that we wish inspiring for Festival regulars, as well as new participants, tourists, sightseers, onlookers and passersby, but mostly Montréal lovers!

Thank you to our partners and our team for making this Festival possible and thank you to you dear public for being a part of it every summer!
