La Chapelle Scènes Contemporaines and MONTRÉAL COMPLÈTEMENT CiRQUE unite for the benefit of L’Autre Cirque, the one that celebrates the hybridization of genres, a mix that sometimes surprises, but always refreshes. On the edge of the circus and other forms of expression, these unusual evenings give voice to artists who choose alternative paths of creation and provoke our imagination to better entertain us.

Here's your chance to discover a different kind of circus!

Programme A (50 min)
  • COUP DE CORPS (15 min)
by Frédéric Lauzon-Schnittka (Canada), Raphaëlle Pelletier (Canada), Scott Raison (États-Unis) et Zora Eichenberger (Suisse)

"Butterflies of light stop on the upper floor and twirl in their light. A sheet of fog descends to their level and the headlamps hum a song. As oatmeal flakes snow, four zebras lose themselves in the void."
How can we regain such vulnerability, such a state of primal awareness in front of an audience? How can we lose ourselves so completely and relive on stage what we experience alone in the studio? And even better: how can we experience such a moment on a grand scale?

  • LIMINAL (35 min)
by Basile Pucek (Canada) et Philippe Dupuis (Canada)

Liminal is a 25-minute circus piece performed by two jugglers in unusual locations such as store windows, back alleys and living rooms. This unique piece explores new creative methods in juggling, movement and acrobatics, examining juggling from an experimental and interdisciplinary perspective.

Programme B (70 min)
  • BRINK (10 min) : Solo de hula hoop
    par Scott Raison (États-Unis)

Inspired by the concept of creation, Brink questions the separation between fabrication and performance of the circus apparatus. Armed with a drill, tape, and hula hoop tubing, the artist confronts the impossibility of perfection and replication in either practice. As he progresses, the construction and warping of the hula hoop serve as a metaphor for the evolving nature of the artist's identity.

  • Our Lady of the Home (FR: Notre-Dame du Domicile) (60 min) :
par Alyssa Bunce (Canada) : Solo circassien multidisciplinaire et théâtral

Our Lady of the Home follows the story of Liza, a housewife in the 1960’s, who finds herself unfulfilled by her life circumstances. Narrated through contortion, acrobatics, physical theatre, and aerial hoop, the show reflects on the concept of Choice and the intentions of those who define "madness" for society: unpacking the stigma of "the hysterical woman" and following Liza's venture to reclaim her authentic self.
