“A show of elegant, wistful beauty”
- The Guardian
"A splendid blend of talents imbued with both elegance and wit."
★★★★- The Times
Only Gandini Juggling virtuosos could have dreamed it up: blending juggling and ballet. Body lines and ball trajectories meet in this opus for jugglers and dancers, where a soundtrack praises the musicality of both disciplines. Juggling clubs and rings follow pointe work and arabesques until we’re convinced that one is simply a natural extension of the other.
Turning preconceptions about juggling and ballet on their head, Gandini Juggling build—before our unbelieving eyes—a structure that’s erased as soon as it’s put down. This piece of ephemeral architecture is elegance in action.
Following the success of Smashed—presented at the Festival in 2013—4 x 4 Ephemeral Architectures celebrates the conversation between two art forms where precision, purity and spirit meet.

About Gandini Juggling
Few companies can say they’ve remained at the forefront of their discipline for over 20 years. Formed in 1992 by renowned jugglers Sean Gandini Kati and Ylä-Hokkala, Gandini Juggling is a rare exception. Since then, this English troupe has created some 30 shows and performed over 5,000 times in 50 different countries. With the wind of success in their sails, everything seems to be headed in the right direction for these critic favourites. In 4 x 4, they’ve added another talent to the roster: choreographer Ludovic Ondiviela, dancer with the Royal Ballet. We’re betting it’s a pretty perfect marriage.
