After 16 years of existence, The 7 Fingers are opening their Creation and Production Centre in the heart of the Quartier des Spectacles in Montreal. In addition to housing all the collective’s activities under one roof, the Centre is a place of gathering, incubation, creation, and transmission.

CONCORDIA SEMINAR ON EMBODIED RESEARCH-CREATION INTO CONTEMPORARY CIRCUS

Event 2 :

Final presentations of the ongoing explorations with subsequent discussion.

The event presents the innovative and multifaceted research-creation “Poetics of the contemporary circus: a dramaturgy of writing in (and of) the movement.” It includes:
- public demonstrations,
- an exhibition of significant themes and findings emerging from the research,
- public panels and discussion involving the international and local circus communities,
- an international graduate seminar on the different qualitative research methodologies in the performing arts through experiential knowledge by being embedded as an integral part of the research dissemination.

The three-year research-creation project “Poetics of the contemporary circus: a dramaturgy of writing in (and of) the movement,” is a collaboration between Concordia University and National Circus School. Its team of specialized teachers, academic students and students in the professional circus program work together in a process-driven, research-creation setting to explore the specificity of the language, movement, discourse on the creation and performative qualities of contemporary circus emerging out of Québec and elsewhere.

This research was funded by the Fonds de recherche—Société et culture (Québec). The performative exhibition is presented thanks to the support of the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (Canada), Concordia University and the Industrial Research Chair in Circus Arts at the National Circus School of Montreal.
